Rampart Supports Lead-Free Procedures in More Than 35 States, Marking Continued Momentum for Enhanced Radiation Protection
Arizona legislation highlights growing national shift toward lead-free radiation protection across interventional medicine
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — June 30, 2026 — Rampart, the global leader in enhanced radiation protection devices (ERPD), today announced that healthcare teams in more than 35 states are now using Rampart’s Lead-Free Enhanced Radiation Protection Device (Lead-Free ERPD™) to perform lead-apron-free procedures across interventional specialties, including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology (EP), vascular surgery, interventional radiology, neurointervention, structural heart, and gastrointestinal (GI) procedures.
The announcement follows Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signing legislation, sponsored by Senator Carine Werner, Chair of the Arizona State Senate Health and Human Services Committee, supporting the use of lead-apron-free radiation protection. Senator Werner has spent significant time in Cath Labs throughout Arizona, immersing herself in the environment to better understand the unique challenges faced by cardiologists and healthcare teams who are exposed to ionizing radiation every day. This legislation marks an important milestone in the growing movement toward safer, more sustainable radiation protection solutions for healthcare providers. Arizona joins a growing number of states recognizing the role of Enhanced Radiation Protection Devices (ERPDs) in protecting clinicians while reducing reliance on traditional lead.
“Arizona’s legislation is another sign that healthcare is embracing a better approach to radiation safety,” said Dr. Bob Foster, Chief Medical Officer of Rampart. “For decades, clinicians accepted that protecting themselves from radiation meant wearing heavy lead. Today, healthcare teams in more than 35 states have shown there’s a better way. We believe the future of radiation protection is lead-free and without the orthopedic risk.”
Rampart is the only Lead-Free ERPD™, enabling lead-apron-free procedures with completely lead-free materials while delivering 1mm lead equivalency and Total Body, Total Team Protection™. Unlike traditional lead aprons and conventional shielding, Rampart’s patented system protects the entire care team without placing additional orthopedic burden on physicians and staff or adding unnecessary weight to the patient table.
With the passage of Arizona’s legislation, Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix became the first healthcare system in the state to perform fully lead-apron-free procedures in the Cath Lab. Physicians at Banner Health, led by Dr. David Rizik, performed Arizona’s first lead-apron-free interventional procedures using Rampart’s Lead-Free ERPD™, demonstrating a new path forward for radiation safety in the state.
“Arizona’s legislation reflects an important step forward for physician and staff safety,” said Dr. David Rizik, Service Line Executive at Banner Health. “Our team has already demonstrated that lead-free procedures are possible using Rampart’s Lead-Free Enhanced Radiation Protection Device (Lead-Free ERPD™), and I believe we’ll continue to see growing adoption as more physicians experience these technologies firsthand.”
Today, Rampart systems are supporting lead-free procedures across the United States, with more than 250,000 procedures performed worldwide. As hospitals continue evaluating ways to improve occupational safety and reduce the long-term orthopedic burden associated with traditional lead, Rampart remains committed to advancing evidence-based innovation that protects the entire care team.
“This is more than a technology milestone,” added Tom Livingston, Chief Executive Officer of Rampart. “It’s a movement that’s reshaping how healthcare teams think about radiation protection. We’re honored to partner with physicians and health systems across the country that are helping lead that transformation.”
